18 Days in Kenya – Olpejeta, Samburu, Meru, Tsavo West, Lake Jipe, Taita hills, Tsavo East, Diani

Kenya is vast and beautiful, and sometimes time is not enough to explore it all. After the first visit to Kenya where you explore the frequently visited parks/destinations, we propose to you the less visited gems of Kenya for your next visit!

PS: Hotels/lodges can be changed to your preference and budget. The beach part can be substituted with Lamu Island which is more laid back then Diani. Package prices available on request.

1

Day 1:

You’ll be picked from the JKIA airport upon your arrival and taken to the Sarova Panafric hotel for your Overnight.

Day 2:

After breakfast, you’ll drive through Kenya’s central highlands to the Olpejeta Conservancy. Lunch will be at the Serena Sweetwaters camp. Your evening game drive will be from 1530h till dusk. Olpejeta conservancy sits right at the heart of the Equator line which cuts Kenya almost in half hence you’ll get to experience 2 hemispheres on the same day! You can take photos at the Equator line. It is also home to the only Chimpanzees in Kenya and recently was home to the only Northern white male rhino in the World. Dinner and Overnight will be at the Sweetwaters camp.

 Day 3:

Breakfast at the camp then exit with a mini game drive enroute. Olpejeta conservancy overlooks the beautiful Mt.Kenya(second highest mountain in Africa) which presents excellent views of the snowcapped mountain. You will drive to Samburu towards the North of Kenya. Lunch will be at the Samburu Ashnil camp. Evening game drive at 1600h. Then back to the camp for Dinner and Overnight.

Day 4:

You have a full day in Kenya’s jewel of the North. Since Samburu is a hot area, we recommend a Morning and an evening game drive instead of a full day game drive. The rest of the day is spent relaxing at the camp and taking in the view of this picturesque wildlife park. Samburu boasts of unique wildlife species like the grevy’s zebra, Oryx, Somali ostrich, Gerenuk and many more! Ashnil camp is at an excellent location by the river so you’ll see animals coming for a drink at the river and curiously grazing not too far from the camp’s fence. Meals and Overnight will be at the Ashnil Camp

Day 5:

Breakfast at the camp then depart for the Meru National park. You’ll drive through a scenic road onto Meru. Lunch will be at the mesmerizing Elsa’s Kopje which has excellent 360 degrees’ views of the Park. Your evening game drive will be at 1600h till dusk. Dinner and Overnight at Elsa’s Kopje

Day 6:

You have a full day at the Meru National Park. Meru is one of Kenya’s most serene parks with very few vehicles and visitors in the Park. You will have a true feel of the African wilderness with minimal disturbance. There is plenty of wildlife roaming the plains of Meru Park with abundant food for them all as well as numerous streams cris-crossing the park and providing adequate water for the wildlife. If you love conservation, then you will be thrilled by the history of George and Joy Adamson whose legacy still lives on in Meru and the adjacent Kora National park. Elsa the Lioness’ grave is in Meru National park, as well as Pippa(the cheetah)’s grave. George Adamson’s camp(Kampi ya Simba) is still intact at the Kora National Park as well as his grave and that of his brother Terrence. You will enjoy the serene game drives in Meru and head back to the Elsa’s Kopje for Dinner and Overnight.

Day 7:

Breakfast at the lodge then depart for Nairobi. You can have a game drive enroute as you soak in Meru’s serenity before exiting. Your Overnight will be at the Tamarind tree hotel in Nairobi.

Day 8:

Breakfast at the hotel then catch the Morning train to Tsavo West. You’ll be in Tsavo by mid-morning and will be transferred to the Kilaguni Serena lodge. Lunch will be at the lodge, then afternoon at leisure as you take in the superb views of the Chyulu hills and the surrounding Tsavo West landscape. Evening game drive will be at 1600h till dusk. Dinner and Overnight at the Kilaguni Serena lodge.

Day 9:

Breakfast at the lodge. Then a full day in Tsavo West with a leisurely Morning and Evening game drive. Tsavo west is famed for the man eating lions which terrorized Railway workers in 1898 and led to the movie ‘The ghost and the darkness’. It is also known for unique natural attractions like the Mzima springs, Shetani lava flow and a rich history of the First World War. Your meals and Overnight will be at the Kilaguni Serena lodge

Day 10:

Your breakfast will be at the Kilaguni lodge, then you depart for Taita hills. Lunch will be at the Sarova Salt lick lodge. Afternoon will be at leisure then an evening game drive at 1600h at the Taita hills Sanctuary. You can have a glorious Sundowner atop one of the hills in the Sanctuary opening up to great views of the surrounding Taita hills and further on the Usambara ranges. Your Dinner and Overnight will be back at the Salt lick lodge which is an architectural marvel in itself seeing as it is a lodge built on stilts. It is one of the most photographed lodges in the World due to its uniqueness.

Day 11:

Breakfast at the lodge then head down Lake Jipe.  Lake Jipe straddles Kenya and Tanzania on the Southern tip of Tsavo West. It provides excellent views of the pare mountain range as its backdrop as well as Mt.Kilimanjaro on a clear day. You’ll take a boat ride at the Lake for a lovely bird watching tour and hippos too. Most days, you’ll spot Elephants by the Lake shore as they always come for a drink at the Lake. You’ll have your picnic lunch by the lake, enjoy the afternoon and fresh breeze from the Lake, before heading back to the Salt lick lodge for Dinner and Overnight.

Day 12:

Breakfast at the lodge then depart for Tsavo East. Your lunch will be at the Ashnil Aruba lodge. Afternoon at leisure then evening game drive from 1600h till dusk. Dinner and Overnight back at the Ashnil Aruba lodge.

Day 13:

This is a full day in Tsavo East with a Morning and Evening game drive. Tsavo East is fondly referred to as the ‘Theatre of the Wild’ owing to the numerous herds of dust red elephants roaming the park amidst many other wildlife species. Tsavo East is also home to the longest lava flow in the World – The Yatta plateau, which stretches for 300km. Your meals and Overnight will be back at the Ashnil Aruba lodge.

Day 14:

Breakfast at the lodge then depart for Diani. After days of wildlife and nature, it is now time for the relaxing beach! The African sun and sand awaits you in Kenya’s best beach line of Diani on the South Coast of Kenya. Your meals and Overnight will be at the Baobab beach Resort.

Day 15, 16,17:

Full days at the beach and you can opt to go for excursions around Diani/South Coast. You can go for a full day excursion to Kisite/Wasini Islands which includes Snorkelling, Dolphin spotting, Sea food lots of fun activities on the Island.  Whilst at South coast, you can also opt to go and explore the Shimba hills National park which is the only place in Kenya where you can spot the Sable antelope. Meals and Overnight will be at the Baobab beach resort

Day 18:

Breakfast at the resort, then you’ll be transferred to the local airstrip to catch your flight back to Nairobi after an amazing time exploring Kenya! You’ll get to Nairobi in good time to catch your onward flight back home.
