On this safari we visit some of the less visited parks in Kenya in the central and northern parts of Kenya. We begin our tour by visiting Solio ranch known as a breeding and protection area for the endangered rhinos, neighboring  we visit the ARK hotel inside Aberdare’s National Park that gives you an opportunity to view wildlife from their viewing decks as animals visit the waterholes. We head to Meru National park a less visited park with great wildlife and diverse eco- system. There is a rhino sanctuary which for black rhino viewing. We head north to Samburu renown for the ‘special 5’ spotted in the northern parks only. We end our tour with a visit at Ol pejeta conservancy a beautiful area on the slopes of M.t Kenya where big five and other game call home.

Day 1: Nairobi to Solio Ranch

Early morning pick-up from your hotel or airport depending on arrangements made and depart towards the central highlands where Solio ranch is located. Enjoy views as we approach the ranch.  This is a private sanctuary which serves as a breeding and protection area for the endangered black rhinos, hence its ideal place for rhinos viewing in their natural habitat and in plenty. Other game found here include zebra, giraffes, hartebeests, lion, leopard, and buffalo among others.  Bird life is incredible, over 300 birds species have are recorded.

Day 2: Solio Aberdare national park
Enjoy an early morning breakfast and final glimpse at the ranch before departing to the nearby Aberdare national park to lodge which overlooks floodlit waterholes and salt lick which attracts wildlife.

The lodge in the heart of the Aberdare national park and comprises of 3 decks with balconies and lounges that provide an excellent photographic opportunities where wildlife are seen from; see elephant, buffalo, bushbuck and occasionally a rhino. Dinner and overnight at the Ark.

 

Day 3 Aberdare to Meru conservation area

After an early breakfast depart with your lunches towards Meru National park. Arrive Ikweta safari camp in time to check-in and freshen up before departing on an afternoon game drive in the park. Little visited and utterly unspoiled, few places are comparable to the remote and rugged atmosphere found at Meru National park.
Visitors can look out for Grevy’s zebras, elephants, lions, Bohor reedbucks, hartebeests, pythons, puff adders, cobras, buffalos and more than 427 recorded species of birds.

Day 4: Meru National Park

Breakfast at leisure before enjoying a full day’s game drive with packed lunches.

Due to the vast size of the park; two full days are highly recommended to enjoy the varied eco-systems – from thorny bushland in the North and South-East to tropical marshes and dense riverine forests of Doum and Raffia palm in the West with sizable waterways; from rain forest (Ngaya Forest also known as the “Elephants’ Maternity”) in the North-West to open grassland elsewhere.

We also visit the renowned Rhino Sanctuary. The area devoted to the protection and preservation of rhinos is about 50 square kilometers; located on the Western boundary of the Park. Here 40 white and 20 black rhinos roam freely. Overnight again at Ikweta Safari Camp

Day 5: Meru National Park

Breakfast at leisure before departing on a morning game drive. Arrive back at the tented camp in time for lunch.

Afternoon spent relaxing by the pool or you may opt to partake in optional activities offered at the camp. These include: nature walks within the Camp and excursions to interesting and scenic places in the vicinity of the Camp such as the nearby fair trade tea factory. For the half-day and full-day excursions, guests are taken in their vehicle accompanied by a guide. There is a nominal charge per group (of whatever size).

Alternatively; enjoy a final game drive in the park. Dinner and overnight back at the tented camp.

Day 6: Meru to Samburu game reserve

Breakfast at leisure before check-out and departure towards Samburu Game Reserve located in the semi-arid North (approx 3 hr drive). Arrive in time for lunch followed by afternoon game drive in the Reserve. Game drive attractions include ‘the Special Five’; Reticulated giraffe, Grevys Zebra, Somali Ostrich, Beisa Oryx and the Gerenuk. Dinner and overnight at Samburu Ashnil camp.

Day 7: Samburu Reserves

Early morning breakfast before departing with packed lunches to enjoy a full days game drive exploring the Buffalo Springs and Samburu Game Reserves.
Look out for elephants wading across the Ewaso Nyiro River, crocodiles basking by the river, lions on the hunt as well as the unique ‘Special Five’ endemic to the North.
There is the option to visit a nearby Samburu village and capture their vibrant dress and culture. Dinner and overnight back in the comforts of Ashnil Tented camp.

Day 8: Samburu to Ol Pejeta conservancy

We exit the park viewing game enroute and proceed to Ol Pejeta conservancy for an afternoon game drive. The conservancy boasts the largest black rhino sanctuary in East Africa, It also houses the remaining northern white rhino in the world. The Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary is situated here, and provides a haven for orphaned, abandoned and rescued chimpanzees. It is the only place in Kenya where these great apes can be seen. The Conservancy is host to the “Big five game” among a large selection of other African animals, which makes it a popular safari destination. We spend the night at lodge or tented camp.

 

Day 9: Ol Pejeta- Nairobi

Breakfast at leisure before embarking on final game drive before continuing to Nairobi, with an enroute stop at the equator for a photo opportunity. Arrive back in Nairobi in the late afternoon and drop off at hotel or airport depending on arrangements made. End of Services.
