Taking in a range of safari experiences, including conservation efforts and understanding about local tribal culture, this tour offers a great range of activities .Travelling through the Great Rift Valley will take you through some of the most sought-after safari locations including the Masai Mara and a chimpanzee sanctuary. Ol Pejeta is an internationally recognized conservation area, hosting some of the last northern white rhinos in existence, as well as Kenya’s only chimpanzee sanctuary that was founded by Jane Goodall. Here is a great spot to begin to learn about the challenges faced by the wildlife in Africa before heading further into the wilds of Kenya.

Visits to Aberdare and Lake Nakuru give different aspects on the landscape of this legendary country, with a vast lake playing host to over 400 avian species and the legendary Ark structure built around a watering hole in Aberdare. N/B  Comfortable Safari clothes – avoid white due to the dust, warm sweater of fleece for the evenings, wind and water proof jacket, solid hiking boots for the walking safari, comfortable footwear for the game drives, binoculars, sunscreen, sun hat & sunglasses, a good book, camera and extra battery, head light, mosquito repellent for protection while outdoors, pack in solid soft bag.

Day 1: Arrive Nairobi

Touching down in Nairobi, our Trip Leader meets you and handles your transfer to the Tamarind Tree Hotel booked on bed and breakfast, the legendary starting point for Grand Safaris since the days of the earliest explorers. Located in Nairobi, Tamarind Tree Hotel provides an outdoor swimming pool, fitness centre and garden. Featuring a terrace, the property is located within 5 km of Kenyatta International Conference Centre. Guests can enjoy a selection of seafood dishes in the on-site restaurant. All units in the hotel are fitted with a flat-screen TV with satellite channels. With a private bathroom, rooms at Tamarind Tree Hotel also feature a garden view. The rooms will provide guests with a desk and a kettle. A buffet breakfast is available daily at the accommodation. Speaking English and Swahili, staff at the 24-hour front desk can help you plan your stay. Nairobi National Museum is 6 km from Tamarind Tree Hotel, while Freedom Heights Mall is 700 m away.

Day 2: Nairobi – Samburu National Reserve

Depart for the Samburu National Reserve after breakfast which is a game reserve on the banks of the Ewaso Ng’iro River. On the other side of the river is the Buffalo Springs National Reserve, which attracts wildlife from the surrounding savannah plains. This area is rich in abundance with a number of rare species, such as the Gravy’s zebra, Somali ostrich, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk and the beisa oryx (also referred to as “Samburu Special Five”). You will arrive in time for lunch at the Samburu Simba Lodge. From here you will proceed on an afternoon game drive in the reserve. Later you will drive back to the camp/lodge for dinner and your overnight stay.

Day 3: Explore Samburu National Reserve

Go on an early morning game drive and then return to the lodge for breakfast. Spend the rest of the morning at your leisure or go on an optional visit to a nearby village. Return to the lodge for lunch and some coffee and/or tea before departing on another game drive. Return in the evening for dinner and your overnight stay.

Day 4: Samburu National Reserve – Sweetwaters Serena Game Sanctuary

This morning we depart Samburu National Reserve and proceed north, driving through lush tea and coffee estates to Sweetwaters Tented Camp. We visit the Chimpanzee Sanctuary which was established to provide sanctuary to orphaned chimpanzees as well as the black rhino.
Dinner & Overnight at Sweetwater’s Camp. The Conservancy boasts an astounding variety of animals including all the “Big Five” (the endangered black rhino, leopard, elephant, buffalo and lion). The combination of amazing wildlife and stunning views across the open plains of Ol Pejeta guarantees an unforgettable safari experience. Day 5: Sweetwaters Game Sanctuary – Lake Nakuru National Park

Drive to Lake Nakuru National Park after breakfast. Enjoy game drives in Lake Nakuru National Park for game viewing drives. It is a shallow alkaline lake where visitors can enjoy the wide ecological diversity with varied habitats that range from Lake Nakuru itself to the surrounding escarpment and picturesque ridges. Game drive is the main activity at Lake Nakuru. Foragers, grazers, hunters and scavengers all play their roles in the natural existence of Nakuru. The park also has over 450 birds’ species including the flamingos. The national park is ideal for bird watching, hiking, picnic and game drives. The park is famed as one of the world’s greatest ornithological spectacles. Lake Nakuru National Park is also home to zebras, gazelles, Rothschild giraffe, impala, black and white rhino sanctuary and other large mammals. Continue with an afternoon game drive. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight at Sarova Lion Hill Game Lodge.

Day 6: Lake Nakuru – Maasai Mara Game Reserve

Drive to Maasai Mara Game Reserve arriving in time for lunch. Maasai Mara National Reserve is a pristine wilderness of haunting beauty, it promises its visitors a profusion of wildlife, prolific bird life and the unprecedented opportunity of catching up with all the members of the ‘Big Five’ in one morning. The 1,800 sq kilometers of this veteran reserve offers the classic mix of African imagery; miles of lion-gold grasslands, shoals of lilac-misted hills, a meandering river, acres of thorn-bush and mile upon mile of undulating wilderness. Game viewing in the Maasai Mara is excellent all year around thanks to the diverse population of resident game, including the Big 5 – lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino – plus popular species found in the park. The Mara’s big cats are even the stars of a popular wildlife TV series. All meals and overnight at the Sarova Mara Safari Lodge.

Day 7: Experience Maasai Mara Game Reserve

Full day in the Maasai Mara. You can also take optional balloon safari at $450 per person or visit a local Maasai village at $25 per person. The reserve offers one of the best opportunities to see cheetah and lions in Africa. A visit to this reserve in July- October will allow you the best chance to witness and watch firsthand as thousands of wildebeest migrate across the swollen crocodile infested Mara River. This is one of nature’s greatest wildlife spectacles, the wildebeest migration, reaches Maasai Mara. The sheer number of wildebeests arriving in the area is staggering. The migration is a dramatic mass movement of almost two million wildebeests, zebras and gazelles in a seasonal annual cycle driven by rainfall. In order to reach Maasai Mara fresh grazing, wildebeests make dramatic river crossings, facing enormous crocodiles to feast on the Mara plains and regain their strength. All meals overnight at Sarova Mara Safari Lodge.

Day 8: Maasai Mara –Nairobi/Fly out

An early dawn game viewing being the very best time to see the cats at hunt and also get to see the sunrise. You then drive back to the lodge for breakfast and check out. Make a return journey back to Nairobi by road (300 km – approximately 6 hours). You will have time for shopping and optional dinner on own plans. Drop off at the airport for your flight departure back home after a wonderful Kenya safari tour.
